CHAPTER 1
Fruit Reveals Our Connection
“Abide in me, and I in you... no more can ye, except ye abide in me.” John 15:4 (KJV)
We Never Graduate From Abiding
Christ is the Vine. We are the branches. His life remains the source in healing, serving, leading, purpose, and discipleship. Maturity deepens our awareness of dependence on Him.
Other people, purpose, ministry, family, success, and even our fruit are not the Vine. Fruit cannot sustain the branch that produced it.
Fruit Reveals More Than Behavior
When unhealthy fruit appears, ask more than how to stop the behavior. Ask what you are drawing from: fear, approval, control, pride, pain, another person, or Christ.
Pressure often reveals what was already inside. Do not waste what was revealed. David prayed, “Search me, O God, and know my heart...” Psalm 139:23 (KJV).
Conviction and Growth
Shame says, Look what you are. Conviction says, Look what needs to come under Christ. We repent, repair, learn, and return to the Vine.
Fruit takes time, but direction matters. Maybe you still struggle, yet now recognize it sooner, apologize, pray, or surrender before letting it choose your direction.
The Fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22–23 names love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. These are evidence of what the Spirit forms.
Personality does not excuse harmful fruit, but the Spirit does not erase personality. Gentleness can be bold. Joy can be quiet. Peace can take action.
Gifts, Success, and Character
A gifted person can still be immature. Gift can make someone effective; fruit helps make them trustworthy. Numbers, audiences, programs, and visible success are not enough by themselves.
Ask not only, Is this working? Ask, What is this producing in me and in the people around me?
The Gardener Prunes
Jesus calls the Father the Husbandman in John 15:1. John 15:2 says fruitful branches are pruned so they can bear more fruit. Pruning is not always rejection.
Quiet seasons are not necessarily barren lives, but quiet cannot become an excuse for permanent stagnation. The branch remains open to the Gardener.
Return to the Vine
Good fruit sends us back to Christ in gratitude. Unhealthy fruit sends us back in surrender.
Christ is the Vine. We are the branches. We abide in Him. From that abiding, fruit grows. We never graduate from the Vine.
