DAY 69: SATURDAY
YOU DON’T HAVE TO SOLVE EVERYTHING TODAY
“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.” Matthew 6:34 (KJV)
MY PRAYER FOR YOU
Dear Heavenly Father,
Today I pray for the woman whose mind is already moving into tomorrow while her body is still standing in today. You know the unfinished things, unanswered questions, uncertain relationships, decisions she hasn’t made yet, and situations she wishes she could resolve. You know how difficult it can be for her to rest when something still feels unsettled.
Help her remember that unfinished doesn’t always mean unsafe. Unanswered doesn’t always mean urgent. Uncertain doesn’t mean she has to figure everything out today. Give her wisdom for what actually needs her attention and peace about what can wait.
Teach her to trust that You are already present in the tomorrow she can’t see. Help her mind and body experience another day where she doesn’t have to remain constantly alert, productive, or prepared. Let her enjoy what is in front of her without believing she is being irresponsible for not solving what hasn’t happened yet.
Help her be present with her children and with the people she loves. Let today be enough for today.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
DEVOTIONAL
It’s Saturday again, and we’re keeping today lighter on purpose.
Over the last several days, we have talked about other people’s disappointment, their emotions, people pleasing, and the pressure to explain yourself until someone understands. Those things can create a lot of mental noise.
Even after the conversation ends, you may continue having it in your head. You think about what you said, what they said, what you should have said, what they might say next, and what you’ll say if they do.
Your body may be sitting on the couch while your mind is still in the conversation.
Today, we’re practicing putting it down.
“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.” Matthew 6:34 (KJV)
Jesus wasn’t teaching us to become irresponsible or never plan ahead. In the verses surrounding this one, He was addressing worry and reminding His followers that their Father knows what they need.
There is a difference between preparing for tomorrow and mentally living there.
Preparation says, “There is something I can reasonably do today, so I’ll do it.”
Worry says, “If I think about this long enough, maybe I can make tomorrow safer.”
But thinking about something repeatedly doesn’t necessarily give you more control over it.
Sometimes there really is nothing else to do today.
You sent the message. You made the decision. You held the boundary. You had the conversation. You completed what belonged to you. The rest hasn’t happened yet.
Let it remain unfinished.
That may feel uncomfortable, especially if uncertainty makes your body feel like something is wrong. Remember what we’ve been learning: discomfort isn’t always danger.
You don’t have to solve uncertainty in order to survive it.
You can say, “I don’t know yet.”
You can let someone take time to respond. You can wait for information. You can allow a decision to remain undecided until you actually have enough information to make it. You can stop rehearsing a conversation that may never happen.
And then you can return to Saturday.
Look at what is actually around you. Maybe your children are laughing. Maybe the weather is beautiful. Maybe there is coffee in your cup, a dog sleeping nearby, music playing, or absolutely nothing remarkable happening at all.
Be there.
You have spent enough time mentally living inside moments that haven’t happened yet.
Today is already here.
You don’t have to miss it while trying to prepare yourself for tomorrow.
TAKE A MOMENT
Ask yourself: What am I trying to solve today that actually belongs to another day?
Is there something practical I need to do about it right now? If there is, do what belongs to you. If there isn’t, give yourself permission to stop carrying it for today.
JOURNAL WITH GOD
What unfinished situation keeps pulling my mind away from the present?
Is there actually something I need to do about it today?
What am I afraid might happen if I stop thinking about it for a while?
What is happening in my life right now that I may be missing because my mind is somewhere else?
What would it look like to trust God with tomorrow and receive today?
YOUR TIME WITH GOD
Keep today simple. Bring God the thing your mind keeps returning to and tell Him what still feels unresolved. Ask Him whether anything genuinely belongs to you today. If something does, take care of it. If nothing does, practice leaving it with Him.
Then come back to where you are.
Put your phone down for a while if you can. Go outside. Sit with your children. Enjoy something good. Rest if you’re tired. Let yourself laugh without remembering what you’re worried about halfway through it.
If your mind returns to the unresolved situation, you don’t have to become frustrated with yourself. Simply notice and return again.
Tomorrow hasn’t asked anything of you yet.
Today has.
Be here for it.
