DAY 56: SUNDAY

YOU DON’T HAVE TO RUSH INTO MONDAY

“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 (KJV)

MY PRAYER FOR YOU

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for another Sunday. Thank You for a day set apart to worship You, receive from Your Word, rest, and remember that life doesn’t depend entirely upon what this woman accomplishes.

Help her be present today instead of mentally beginning tomorrow. You know the responsibilities waiting for her, the schedules, appointments, work, children, decisions, and ordinary demands another week will bring. They don’t need to occupy today before they arrive.

As she gathers with other believers, quiet her mind enough to worship. Help her listen instead of planning. Let her receive what You have for her without immediately turning it into another thing she needs to do.

Give her and her children a day with breathing room. Let there be worship, conversation, food, laughter, rest, and time together. Prepare them for the coming week through peace instead of pressure.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

DEVOTIONAL

It is Sunday.

Tomorrow may already be trying to get your attention.

You know what Monday holds. Maybe you’re thinking about the alarm, school, work, appointments, meals, responsibilities, or everything you didn’t finish last week.

But Monday isn’t here yet.

“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 (KJV)

This is the day.

Not tomorrow.

Today.

We’ve spent several weeks learning how easily the mind leaves the present. It travels backward to conversations it wants to redo and forward to situations it wants to control.

Sunday gives you another opportunity to practice staying where you are.

You can prepare for tomorrow without living there.

There’s nothing wrong with laying out clothes, checking the calendar, preparing a meal, or doing something that makes Monday easier. Preparation can actually protect rest when it’s done intentionally.

But preparation and preoccupation aren’t the same thing.

Preparation says, “I know what tomorrow requires, and I’ve done what reasonably needs to be done.”

Preoccupation says, “I can’t enjoy today because I’m already carrying tomorrow.”

Jesus said:

“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.” Matthew 6:34 (KJV)

Tomorrow will come with enough time to live it.

You don’t need to spend Sunday emotionally rehearsing Monday.

Today, go worship.

Let yourself sing without thinking about what needs to happen afterward. Listen to Scripture. Listen to the message. Pay attention to what God brings to your heart.

And don’t turn church into another performance.

You don’t have to arrive with everything together. Your children don’t have to look perfect. The morning doesn’t have to go perfectly for worship to matter.

Sometimes getting everyone out the door is messy. Someone can’t find a shoe. Somebody is irritated. You’re running later than you wanted. Maybe breakfast didn’t happen the way you planned.

Go anyway.

Don’t let an imperfect morning convince you the entire day is ruined.

Worship isn’t reserved for peaceful mornings.

Bring the real family.

Bring the tired mother.

Bring the distracted mind.

Bring the week you just lived.

And meet with God there.

Then when church is over, resist the urge to turn the rest of Sunday into Monday preparation from beginning to end.

Do what genuinely helps your family.

Then stop.

Eat together if you can. Let the kids relax. Take a nap. Sit outside. Talk. Laugh. Read. Watch something together. Let the afternoon move a little more slowly.

You aren’t wasting time.

Rest prepares you too.

Your body needs it.

Your mind needs it.

Your children need it.

Your relationships need it.

And your soul needs regular reminders that God is still working when you aren’t.

That is part of honoring rest.

You stop long enough to remember that the world keeps moving without your constant management.

Worship the One who holds tomorrow.

Then you receive today.

TAKE A MOMENT

Notice where your mind is right now.

Are you actually living Sunday, or have you already moved into Monday?

If there’s something you genuinely need to prepare, decide when you’ll do it.

Then give the rest of today back to today.

JOURNAL WITH GOD

What am I already carrying about the week ahead?

What genuinely needs to be prepared today, and what can wait until tomorrow?

What would help today feel restful and set apart for my family?

YOUR TIME WITH GOD

Let church be part of your time with God today. Worship. Listen. Receive.

Later, take a few quiet minutes and tell God what you’re carrying about tomorrow. Give Him the appointments, responsibilities, conversations, children, work, and things you can’t predict.

Prepare what reasonably needs preparing, but don’t spend the whole day preparing.

Then come back to Sunday.

Enjoy your family. Let yourself rest. Let your children rest. Notice something good. Thank God for it.

Tomorrow will have its own grace for tomorrow.

You don’t need Monday’s answers today.

You don’t need Monday’s strength today.

You don’t need to solve Monday’s problems today.

Today has enough of its own gifts.

Receive them.

Tomorrow can wait until tomorrow.
