What Will Remain
Suggested time Sunday 2:00 to 2:55 PM | 55 minutes
“For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.”
1 Timothy 6:7 KJV
Purpose
Bring the weekend together by helping participants choose what they want their ordinary lives to keep pointing toward and prepare for the gospel invitation and final commissioning.
Leader Teaching
Possessions, accomplishments, programs, roles, and names are temporary. They can be stewarded well, but they cannot carry the deepest work of legacy. People learn by proximity whether prayer is where we go, mistakes can be repaired, truth and grace can remain together, boundaries and love can coexist, and failure leads back to Christ.
Some things should remain: the gospel, truth, faith, love, integrity, prayer, Scripture, hospitality, service, repentance, and healthy discipleship. Some things should end: rage, control, shame, secrecy, fear, prejudice, spiritual manipulation, and patterns that make the next generation carry what Christ is asking us to surrender.
Christian legacy is not making ourselves last forever. It is participating in the Kingdom of Christ, which existed before us and will continue after us. The question is not, “Will they remember me?” It is, “Will something remain that helps them remember Him?”
A present legacy letter
1. Participants write a one page letter beginning, “What I hope my life keeps pointing toward is...”
2. Include one truth about Christ, one pattern to continue, one burden to stop, one person or community to strengthen, and one next faithful step.
3. The letter is not a prediction or a final message. It is a present commitment that can be revisited in thirty days.
4. Invite participants to place the letter in an envelope and write the date they intend to reopen it.
Conversation Questions
What do people learn simply by being near us?
What do you hope becomes normal in the spaces you influence?
What would it look like for your life to make Christ more visible?
Leader Watchpoint
Do not measure one legacy against another. A public ministry is not automatically more faithful than a quiet home, friendship, workplace, prayer life, or act of service. Keep Christ, not visibility, at the center.
Closing Prayer
Jesus, let what remains from our lives point beyond us and toward You. Teach us to live truthfully, love faithfully, repair humbly, and give away what You have entrusted. Amen.
