Prepare and Release With Open Hands

Suggested time Saturday 3:20 to 4:20 PM | 60 minutes

“I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.”
1 Corinthians 3:6 KJV

Purpose

Help participants distinguish stewardship from control and prepare people, responsibilities, and outcomes to continue without requiring their constant ownership.

Leader Teaching

Paul planted. Apollos watered. God gave the increase. Each person had a real part, but neither person owned the field or controlled the harvest. Legacy becomes unhealthy when we confuse faithfulness with being irreplaceable.

Parents are raising people who will eventually make their own decisions. Leaders should develop others who can carry responsibility. Ministries need shared knowledge. People we disciple need direct access to Christ, not permanent dependence on us. Release may include grief because a role, season, or relationship is changing, but open hands are not evidence that our work did not matter.

Preparation and release belong together. We teach principles, model character, explain responsibilities, let people try, correct without crushing, and tell them when they are ready. Then we release outcomes to God. We may never see the result. We can still be faithful.

What is mine to carry

1. Create two private lists: What God has entrusted to me and What belongs to God.

2. On the first list, name responsibilities that require faithful action. On the second, name outcomes, approval, timing, other people’s choices, and growth that cannot be controlled.

3. Choose one preparation step and one release step.

4. Invite participants to sit with open hands while the leader prays. Keep the response quiet and unforced.

Conversation Questions

Leader Watchpoint

Releasing control does not mean abandoning responsibility. Help participants distinguish a faithful boundary or handoff from avoidance. In parenting, ministry, employment, and caregiving, obligations may remain even while outcomes are surrendered.

Closing Prayer

God, show us what is ours to carry and what belongs to You. Make us faithful stewards, generous teachers, and humble people who can prepare others and release the increase into Your hands. Amen.
