Give Away What God Has Given You
Suggested time Saturday 9:15 to 10:05 AM | 50 minutes
“And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.”
2 Timothy 2:2 KJV
Purpose
Move legacy from a vague idea into practical discipleship that helps another person learn to follow Christ.
Leader Teaching
Paul taught Timothy, and Timothy was to entrust truth to faithful people who could teach others. The movement is not centered on preserving Paul’s name. Truth keeps moving through people. That is a practical picture of legacy.
Advice and discipleship are not identical. Advice says, “Here is what I think you should do.” Discipleship asks, “How can I help you learn to follow Christ here?” Healthy discipleship opens Scripture, prays, listens, models repentance, gives responsibility, and helps people develop discernment. Its goal is not permanent dependence on the mentor.
Some participants will think they have nothing to teach. Remind them that they may know how to return after failure, pray through fear, repair after conflict, establish a boundary, manage a home, serve faithfully, study Scripture, or ask for help. They do not need to be experts. They need humility, truth, and willingness to walk beside someone without taking Christ’s place.
The discipleship pathway
1. Ask participants to identify one person who invested something faithful in them.
2. Name the truth, practice, skill, or example they received.
3. Identify one person already within reach who might benefit from walking together.
4. Choose one relational action: invite, listen, pray, open Scripture, practice together, give responsibility, or follow up.
Conversation Questions
What is the difference between helping someone follow Christ and making them dependent on our answers?
What have you learned that could be offered with humility?
Who is already close enough for one faithful conversation?
Leader Watchpoint
Do not match people into mentoring relationships during the session. Encourage prayer, wisdom, appropriate boundaries, and consent. Adults working with minors must follow the church’s child safety policies.
Closing Prayer
Christ, thank You for those who helped truth reach us. Keep us teachable, and show us how to give away what You have entrusted without making ourselves the center. Amen.
