Day 7 of 14 · Companion to Purpose Led
When Good Desire Gets Mixed
Reads as a complete devotion on its own

“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians 10:31 · KJV
A calling can be real while our motives are still being purified. We may genuinely want to serve and also want recognition. We may care about growth and quietly need it to prove that we matter. We may help people and still feel threatened when they no longer need us.
Ambition is not automatically wrong. Wanting to build something strong, reach more people, publish, grow, learn, or lead can reflect faithful stewardship. The deeper question is not simply, Do I want this to grow? It is, Why do I need it to grow?
Success can become validation. Failure can become identity. Comparison can make another person's assignment feel like evidence against our own. Even ministry can become a place where competition hides behind spiritual language.
Bring the mixed motive into the light without using it to disqualify every sincere desire. God already knows what is present. Confession lets Him address it. The assignment may not be false simply because the person carrying it still needs formation.
Surrender asks whether God can redirect you without offending you. Can someone else improve the work, receive recognition, or carry a part you expected to lead? Can the work stay small? Can a good season end? Can you obey without being central?
Open hands do not mean you stop caring. They mean you care under God's authority. You can say, I want this, but I want You more. If the vision changes, You are still God. If the outcome surprises me, You are still God. If nobody applauds, the glory still belongs to You.
Reflect
Sit with the question
What do success, recognition, being needed, or comparison awaken in you? What are you afraid an unwanted outcome would say about you?
Respond
Take one faithful step
Finish this sentence honestly: I need this to work because... Bring the answer to God without editing it into something more spiritual. Ask Him to purify what is real and release what is trying to carry your identity.
Pray
Bring it before God
Lord, search my motives with kindness and truth. Purify the good desires that have become mixed with pride, fear, comparison, control, or the need to be needed. Let me enjoy encouragement without depending on it. Keep me more loyal to You than to any vision or outcome. Amen.
Truth to carryThe vision is not God. God is God.
