The Next Faithful Step

Day 6 of 14 · Companion to Purpose Led

What Is in Your Hand?

Reads as a complete devotion on its own

Open hands offering a wooden staff and bread beside a Bible.

“And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.”

Exodus 4:2 · KJV

Purpose often sends our attention toward what we lack. More money. More time. More education. More confidence. A larger audience. Better connections. A clearer plan. God asked Moses to notice something simpler: What is already in your hand?

The answer may feel ordinary. A skill learned through work. A home. A vehicle. A phone. A few hours. An ability to listen, organize, teach, repair, cook, write, sing, lead, or care. What feels common to you may become meaningful when it is offered to God.

Your hands may also be full. Children, employment, caregiving, health, finances, healing, or commitments already made can occupy real capacity. Purpose does not always require adding another responsibility. Sometimes it means carrying what is already present with greater faithfulness.

Wisdom tells the truth about limits. Compassion does not make someone a counselor. Experience does not create professional qualifications. A home is not automatically the right setting for every need. A good desire still needs training, boundaries, and accountability. Limitations may be telling you not now, not alone, not this way, or begin smaller.

People are not materials for building your vision. You may need help, partnership, or someone else's gift, but shared purpose requires invitation and freedom. Let people say no. Let them carry their own responsibility before God.

You are responsible for availability, not multiplication. The boy with the loaves and fishes offered what he had. Jesus did what the boy could not. Put what is in your hand before God without pretending it is more than it is and without deciding it is too small to matter.

Reflect

Sit with the question

Are you overlooking what is already available because you are focused on what you do not yet have? Are your hands full in a way that requires faithfulness rather than expansion?

Respond

Take one faithful step

Make a short inventory of what is truly available today: time, ability, relationships, resources, experience, and present responsibilities. Choose one thing to use faithfully and one limit to respect.

Pray

Bring it before God

God, show me what You have already placed in my hands. Keep me from despising what is small or overestimating what I can safely carry. Teach me to use what I have with wisdom, protect what You entrusted to me, receive help when needed, and leave multiplication in Your hands. Amen.

Truth to carryMy responsibility is to surrender what I have. God remains responsible for the increase.
