Carried Forward

Day 6 of 10 · Companion to Legacy

Build People Who Can Stand

Reads as a complete devotion on its own

“For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:”

Ephesians 4:12 · KJV

The work of ministry includes equipping people. The goal is not to gather people who always need our answers. It is to help believers become mature, responsible, discerning, and able to carry their own part in the body of Christ.

Information alone does not equip. People need truth explained, but they also need room to watch, practice, ask questions, make manageable mistakes, receive correction, and try again. Jesus taught His disciples, let them participate, corrected them, and eventually sent them.

Good development joins skill and character. Skill asks whether someone can do the task. Character asks whether they can be trusted with it. Gift should not be promoted faster than integrity can carry it. Waiting can be part of preparation when it is honest, clear, and connected to growth.

Correction should make people more capable, not merely ashamed. Safe leadership does not remove standards. It allows people to tell the truth, admit what they do not know, acknowledge failure, and receive direction without humiliation. Dignity and accountability can remain in the same room.

Notice what God may be forming in another person. Name specific faithfulness, courage, compassion, discernment, or responsibility. Give the gift somewhere appropriate to grow. Encouragement becomes more useful when it helps a person recognize what to steward rather than creating pressure to become impressive.

Ask what happens to people under your influence. Are they becoming more secure in Christ, more capable in Scripture, more honest about weakness, and more willing to serve? Build what they can carry wherever God sends them. The strongest evidence of leadership may be people who can stand without leaning on us forever.

Reflect

Sit with the question

Do the people under your influence become more capable and secure, or more dependent and afraid of mistakes? Who is ready for encouragement, responsibility, or clear correction?

Practice

Take one faithful step

Give one person an appropriate opportunity to participate or lead. Explain the purpose, define the responsibility, remain available for support, and allow them to complete it in their own way.

Pray

Bring it before God

Lord, teach me to build people with truth, patience, dignity, and courage. Keep me from needing to remain necessary. Help me recognize gifts, develop character, correct without humiliation, and make room for others to practice. May those I influence become stronger in Christ and ready to serve others. Amen.

Truth to carryHealthy influence helps people become able to stand in Christ.
