Opening

Restoration is a word we often use when we want something broken to become what it was before.

We restore houses. Furniture. Photographs. Things that have been damaged by time, weather, neglect, or use.

But people are different.

When God restores us, He isn't always taking us backward to who we were before something happened. Sometimes there is no going back. We have lived. We have loved. We have lost. We have made choices. Other people have made choices that affected us. We have learned things we wish we had never needed to learn.

And yet God restores.

He meets us in what actually happened, not in the story we wish we could rewrite. He tells the truth about the wound without making the wound our identity. He shows us what belongs to us, what belongs to someone else, and what has always belonged to Him.

Restoration is not pretending nothing happened.

It is allowing Christ into what happened deeply enough that what hurt us no longer gets to decide who we are, how we love, what we believe, or where we go next.

Maybe you are carrying something you can name immediately.

Maybe you cannot name it yet.

Maybe you know exactly who hurt you.

Maybe the person you are struggling to forgive is yourself.

Maybe nothing dramatic happened at all. Maybe life simply became heavy one piece at a time until carrying heavy things started feeling normal.

Wherever you are, you do not have to arrive here already healed.

You do not have to understand everything before coming to Christ.

You do not have to clean the wound before bringing it to the One who knows how to heal it.

Throughout this journey, we are going to tell the truth. We are going to look at fear, shame, grief, regret, forgiveness, boundaries, identity, relationships, and the ways wounds can travel through us if we never bring them into the light.

But we are also going to keep returning to something greater than every wound we uncover.

Christ.

He ransoms.

He redeems.

He restores.

He renews.

And He does not ask us to carry alone what was always meant to be placed into His hands.

"He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake." Psalm 23:3 (KJV)

Maybe restoration begins here.

Not with having every answer.

With being willing to let Him walk with us through the questions.
