Before We Begin
There comes a point in walking with God when we begin asking: What am I supposed to do with the life He has given me?
We have learned to trust Him. To abide in Him. To allow Him into places that need healing. To let Him change what is happening within us. And as we continue becoming, something begins turning outward.
What has God placed in my hands? Where is He leading me? What am I supposed to do next?
That is where Purpose Led begins.
This is not a book about discovering one great thing you were born to accomplish. Purpose is bigger than a career, ministry, platform, title, or one assignment. Sometimes purpose looks like leading. Sometimes following. Sometimes building. Sometimes preparing. Sometimes serving somewhere nobody notices. Sometimes raising a family. Sometimes beginning something before we know exactly where it will lead. Sometimes releasing something that was once ours to carry. And sometimes purpose looks like waiting when we would much rather move.
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 (KJV)
Notice the word walk.
We do not have to discover our entire life at once. We walk. And as we walk with God, He leads.
This book is not a formula for finding your calling. It is an invitation to recognize what God has already placed within us and around us: gifts, abilities, experiences, burdens, opportunities, responsibilities, and preparation. It also asks us to examine what can confuse purpose: ambition, fear, comparison, being needed, approval, control, busyness, our own plans, and even good opportunities that are not ours to carry.
Being purpose led is not the same as being busy for God. It is being willing to be led by Him.
There will be times when He says go and times when He says wait. Times when He asks us to lead and times when He asks us to follow. Times when He gives us something to build and times when faithfulness means letting something go.
Purpose does not begin with knowing exactly where we are going. It begins with knowing Who we are following.
So keep returning to one question: Lord, what have You given me to do here?
What is ours? What is God asking us to carry? What is He asking us to release? And what is the next faithful step?
You do not have to know your entire purpose to obey your next instruction. You only have to remain close enough to hear it.
That is where we begin.
