DAY 14: SUNDAY
LET SUNDAY BE SUNDAY
“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.” Psalm 122:1 (KJV)
MY PRAYER FOR YOU
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for bringing this woman through another week.
Today, I pray that she would not approach You as another responsibility she needs to complete. Let her come to You as Your daughter.
Prepare her heart for worship. As she gathers with other believers, help her become present enough to receive what You have for her. Let her sing, listen, pray, learn, and fellowship without mentally rushing ahead to everything waiting at home.
If she brings her children with her, let them experience more than attendance. Let them see that gathering with the body of Christ matters. Give them opportunities to hear Your Word, worship You, ask questions, and experience Christian community for themselves.
Father, teach this mother that she does not have to manufacture every encounter her children have with You. Her responsibility is to faithfully lead them toward You, but You are the One who meets them there.
Let her trust You with their faith too.
And when church is over, help her resist turning the remainder of Sunday into a frantic attempt to prepare for Monday. Give her wisdom to do what truly needs to be done while protecting room for rest, family, reflection, and You.
Let today be holy because it has been intentionally made room for You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
DEVOTIONAL
It is Sunday.
So today's devotion is intentionally short.
You do not need to complete a long Bible study before church, after church, or late tonight because you feel guilty that you did not get to it earlier.
These pages are supposed to support your walk with God, not compete with it.
“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.” Psalm 122:1 (KJV)
If you have a church home, go.
Be there.
Not simply physically.
Be present.
Worship with other believers. Listen to the Word being taught. Pray. Fellowship. Allow yourself to receive instead of believing you always have to be the one giving.
And if your children are with you, remember something important: you are not simply taking them to church.
You are teaching them to gather with the church.
There is a difference.
We want our children to develop a faith that becomes their own. That cannot happen if their entire relationship with God exists only through us.
You can teach them Scripture. You can pray with them. You can model faith in your home. You can answer questions and create conversations about God.
But you cannot encounter God for them.
Eventually, they need to recognize His voice, seek Him, pray their own prayers, open His Word for themselves, worship when you are not standing beside them, and choose obedience when you are nowhere around to see it.
Church gives them another place to experience that.
They hear someone besides Mom teach Scripture. They worship beside other believers. They see people of different ages and backgrounds following the same Christ. They begin to understand that they belong to something larger than their own family.
Let them experience that.
You do not have to turn the ride home into another lesson. If conversation comes naturally, ask what stood out to them. Tell them what spoke to you too.
Let them know God is still teaching you.
Then let Sunday breathe.
You may need to prepare a few things for Monday. That is okay.
But preparation does not have to consume the entire day.
Yesterday, you practiced leaving margin. Today, protect some of it.
Worship.
Receive.
Rest.
Be with your family.
Let God be enough for today.
TAKE A MOMENT
Before or after church, ask yourself:
What is God inviting me to receive today?
You do not have to write the answer.
Just carry the question with you.
JOURNAL WITH GOD
There is no journaling assignment today.
If something from worship, Scripture, the sermon, or your time with God particularly speaks to you and you want to remember it, you can write it here:
What do I want to carry with me from today?
YOUR TIME WITH GOD
Your time with God today does not need to happen primarily on these pages.
Go worship.
Listen.
Receive.
Let your children experience church.
Let them ask questions.
Let God speak to them without feeling that you have to explain everything for Him.
And sometime today, rest.
Tomorrow we will return to the deeper work.
Today, let Sunday be Sunday.
