Chapter 19
Keep Becoming
“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
2 Corinthians 3:18 (KJV)
You have reached the end of this book. But you have not reached the end of becoming. And that is a good thing. There will still be things God shows you, places where your thinking needs renewed, moments when an old reaction surprises you, seasons when something needs pruned, and places where the fruit is still ripening. There will also be moments when you look back and realize: I'm not who I used to be.
You Will Still Need Him
Spiritual maturity does not make us independent from God. Maybe we once needed Him because we did not know what to do. Later, we learn we still need Him even when we do know what to do. Capability is not direction. Wisdom is not surrender. Experience does not make us sovereign. We still ask: Lord, is this mine? Is this the time? Do I move? Do I wait? Do I speak? What are You showing me?
Do Not Turn Becoming Into Another Performance
Do not make another checklist: more patient, more loving, more peaceful, more disciplined, more gentle, more faithful. Do not stand over yourself measuring whether you have finally become enough. Jesus still says, “Abide in me, and I in you.” John 15:4 (KJV).
Let God Surprise You
One day you may find yourself in a situation that once would have undone you, and somehow you are standing differently. You listened. You waited. You told the truth. You did not need the last word. You received correction. You apologized. You rested. You trusted. Maybe you will wonder where that came from. It grew, quietly, while you were walking with Him.
Keep Walking
You do not need to know everything God will form next. Walk with Him. Stay close enough to listen. Stay humble enough to learn. Stay surrendered enough to change. Stay secure enough to receive. Stay courageous enough to obey. When you stumble, come back. When you get ahead, come back. When you are tired, rest with Him. When He says move, move. When He says wait, wait. When you notice fruit, enjoy it, thank Him, and remember where the life came from.
You are His. You are growing. You are still becoming. And He is still with you.
