CHAPTER 9
When Fruit Points Beyond Us
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
Fruit Is Evidence, Not Advertisement
People may see the works, but the glory belongs to the Father. Fruit is not a spiritual sales pitch. Serve, help, listen, give, show up, work well, and treat people with dignity.
Over time character speaks. Our life does not need to be perfect before we share Christ, but it should increasingly support what our mouth says.
Testimony Points to Christ
Every believer has a testimony, even if it is quiet. We can tell the truth without polishing the story until it sounds complete. “God has brought me a long way, and I am still walking this out” is a testimony too.
The purpose is not to make ourselves the hero. It is to say, Look how Christ met me there.
The Gospel Needs Words
Our lives should support our message, but people cannot learn the death and resurrection of Christ merely because we were kind. Witness eventually needs words.
We can speak conversationally and respectfully. Ask permission sometimes. Answer questions. Admit when we do not know. Do not argue someone into surrender. Winning an argument is not the same as winning a person.
Truth With Humility
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life...” John 14:6 (KJV). We can say that humbly because we did not create the truth; we received it.
First Peter 3:15 tells us to be ready to answer with meekness. Doubt and questions are not always rebellion. Church hurt can affect how people hear us, and we can acknowledge Christian failure honestly.
A Clear Gospel
All have sinned and come short of God's glory (Romans 3:23). The wages of sin is death, but eternal life is God's gift through Jesus Christ (Romans 6:23). We cannot save ourselves by becoming nicer, more religious, or more accomplished.
Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3–4). Salvation is by grace through faith, not works (Ephesians 2:8–9). Repentance is a turning toward Christ, not merely adding Jesus to an unchanged life.
Believe and Confess
Romans 10:9–10 teaches belief in the heart and confession with the mouth. If you believe Jesus Christ is Lord, that He died for your sins, and that God raised Him from the dead, profess that faith aloud.
You may say: “Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that I need You. I believe that You died for my sins and that You rose again. I ask You to forgive me. I confess You as Lord, and I surrender my life to You. I choose to follow You.” These exact words are not a saving formula. Jesus saves.
Call Upon Him
Romans 10:13 says whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. So call upon Him. Out loud. Confess Christ. Believe in your heart. Begin following Him.
Salvation is the beginning, not the finish line. Abide, receive, read Scripture, pray, gather with believers, obey, repent, grow, allow pruning and healing, and fruit begins growing.
Do Not Force the Harvest
Someone may hear the Gospel and say no, ask questions, walk away, or return years later. Rejection is not automatically failure. Examine whether we were clear, respectful, and loving, then respect free will.
One conversation can carry seed. Someone else may water what we plant, and sometimes we harvest what people we never met planted. God gives the increase.
Fruit Points Beyond Us
If someone admires our peace, tell them where it comes from. If they notice change, tell them who changed us. Fruit should not make the branch famous. Fruit should make the Vine visible.
We live, love, serve, and speak when God opens the door. Sometimes a seed leaves our hand and enters soil we may never see again. It may be the beginning of someone else's story.
