Day 13 of 14 · Companion to Purpose Led
Let God Define Success
Reads as a complete devotion on its own

“I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.”
1 Corinthians 3:6 · KJV
We like visible results. If we plant, we want growth. If we write, we hope someone reads. If we build, we want it to work. Results can help us evaluate our stewardship, but they cannot carry the full definition of obedience.
Numbers tell us something without telling us everything. If nobody attends, finances continually fail, or people repeatedly report harm, we should pay attention. Faithfulness does not excuse confusion, ineffectiveness, poor stewardship, or injury to people.
At the same time, popularity is not the same as fruit. Something can be small and deeply effective. Truth can be faithful before it is welcomed. A seed may take years to grow, and sometimes someone else harvests what we planted.
Some attempts do not produce the result we hoped for. We do not need to invent hidden success to protect our pride. We can ask what happened, what we misunderstood, what needs to change, and whether the faithful response is to continue, adjust, or stop.
Success may look like sustainability instead of constant expansion. It may look like healthy boundaries, honest finances, a protected family, a trustworthy team, or room to breathe. It may look like someone no longer needing you, another person taking over, or your own repentance when the assignment exposed something unhealthy.
Paul planted. Apollos watered. God gave the increase. That is the boundary between stewardship and sovereignty. Do your part with integrity. Measure what can responsibly be measured. Learn from the fruit. Then leave room for God to remain God.
Reflect
Sit with the question
What result have you been using as the final proof that you obeyed well or that your life mattered? What information should you receive without letting it become your identity?
Respond
Take one faithful step
Evaluate one assignment with honesty. Name what is fruitful, what is not working, what can be improved, and what is outside your control. Choose one stewardship change, then deliberately release the outcome to God.
Pray
Bring it before God
Lord, teach me to care about fruit without worshiping results. Give me humility to improve what is ineffective, stop what is harmful, and repent when needed. Keep me from confusing reach with depth or growth with approval. I will plant and water faithfully. The increase belongs to You. Amen.
Truth to carryMy job is faithfulness. The increase belongs to God.
