Day 6 of 14 · Companion to Bearing Fruit
Strength Under Christ's Rule
Reads as a complete devotion on its own

“With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;”
Ephesians 4:2 · KJV
Meekness is not the absence of strength. It is strength that has come under the rule of Christ. Power no longer has to prove itself through intimidation, humiliation, retaliation, or the ability to make another person afraid.
Reaction is fast. It answers the wound before wisdom has time to speak. Response creates enough space to ask what is true, what needs protection, and what kind of fruit we want this moment to produce. Sometimes one breath and one honest prayer are the beginning of self control.
Gentle speech can still be clear. A soft answer can say no, identify wrong, correct a child, address dishonesty, or end a conversation that has become unsafe. Volume and sarcasm do not make truth stronger. They often make truth harder to receive.
Patience does not mean doing another person's growing for them. We can allow time for maturity while leaving responsibility where it belongs. We can forgive without removing every consequence and offer grace without pretending a repeated pattern is harmless.
Meekness protects. It can call for help, report abuse, protect a child, establish distance, or leave danger. Christian language about patience and gentleness should never be used to silence someone who is being harmed. Strength submitted to Christ serves truth and safety rather than pride.
The people under our influence should not fear being crushed when they are honest. Ask God to make your strength safe. Let authority become service, correction seek restoration, and anger refuse cruelty. Strong fruit does not have to strike back in order to stand.
Reflect
Sit with the question
What do you tend to do when you feel challenged or disrespected? Does your strength make room for honesty, or does it pressure others to protect themselves from you?
Practice
Take one faithful step
Before one difficult response, pause long enough to lower your voice and name the actual issue. Speak one clear sentence without sarcasm, insult, threat, or exaggeration. Seek immediate help if safety is at risk.
Pray
Bring it before God
Lord, bring my strength under Your rule. Slow my reactions and govern my words. Teach me to be clear without cruelty, patient without passivity, and protective without revenge. Let the people affected by my influence experience truth, dignity, and safety. Amen.
Truth to carryGentleness is not powerless. It is power submitted to Christ.
