The Fruit of Becoming · Part 10 of 10 · Conclusion

The Harvest

A flourishing vine bearing fruit in warm sunlight

Fruit is not something we force. It is the natural evidence of a life remaining connected to Jesus.

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”John 15:5 (KJV)
“Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.”John 15:8 (KJV)

As we have walked through each fruit of the Spirit, I keep coming back to one simple truth: the fruit was never the destination.

Jesus never told us to chase love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, or self control. He told us to remain in Him. The fruit was never meant to be the destination. Jesus is.

The closer we walk with Him, the more His character grows within us. Not because we are manufacturing it, but because His life is flowing through ours.

For many years, I believed the Christian life was about trying to become a better person, working on weaknesses, and checking the right boxes. But Jesus invites us into relationship.

He did not say, ‘Produce fruit so you can stay connected to Me.’ He said to remain in Him and bear much fruit. The order matters. Relationship comes before fruit. Always.

Fruit is not for the branch. A branch does not eat its own fruit. The fruit blesses someone else.

Love comforts someone who is hurting. Joy gives hope to someone discouraged. Peace steadies someone living in chaos. Patience creates room for someone still growing. Kindness reminds someone they matter. Goodness reflects God’s character. Faithfulness reassures others they are not walking alone. Gentleness restores instead of crushing. Self control gives us freedom to love others well.

Every piece of fruit points beyond itself. It points to Jesus.

This series was never about becoming a more polished version of myself. It has always been about becoming more like Christ. We are all still becoming. None of us has arrived.

Every day is another opportunity to remain, trust, surrender, follow, and allow the Holy Spirit to continue producing His fruit in our lives.

When our race is finished, the greatest question will not be how successful we were, how impressive our ministry looked, or how much we accomplished. The greater question is whether people saw Jesus in us.

That is the harvest. Not applause, recognition, or numbers, but lives touched because they encountered the love of Christ through His people.

As we abide in Him, we become like Jesus. As we become like Jesus, we bear fruit that lasts. Not for our glory, but for His.

Fruit is not the destination. Fruit is the evidence that we are abiding in Christ, and it becomes an invitation for someone else to know Him.

Abide in Christ. Become like Jesus. Bear His fruit.

Reflection

As you have walked through The Fruit of Becoming, which fruit has God been growing most deeply in your life? How have you seen Him use it to bless someone else?
