Day 1 of 10 · Companion to Legacy
Rise Where Christ Meets You
Reads as a complete devotion on its own

“But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose...”
Acts 26:16 · KJV
Paul did not meet Christ while standing in strength. He met Him on the ground, interrupted, blinded, and confronted by truth. The first command was not to understand the whole future. It was to rise and stand. Purpose began with a present act of obedience.
We often imagine that meaningful work will begin after we become more certain, more healed, more experienced, or more impressive. Preparation matters, but it can become a hiding place when we use it to postpone every faithful beginning. God already knows the limits of the person He is calling.
Rising does not mean pretending that weakness, grief, fear, or failure never happened. It means those things no longer receive the final word. Christ meets us honestly, then calls us into the next thing that belongs to obedience. We stand because He has spoken, not because we have made ourselves sufficient.
Purpose usually begins close. It may look like telling the truth, returning a call, serving the person already near you, keeping a promise, learning what you need to learn, or beginning the work you have delayed. A faithful life is built through ordinary responses long before anyone calls it a legacy.
Do not confuse small with unimportant. Paul could not yet see every city, conversation, prison, letter, or life that would be touched. He could only respond to Christ in the moment he had been given. The next faithful step rarely contains a map of everything that will come after it.
Ask a simpler question today: What does it mean to stand here? You do not need to carry your entire future. Bring Christ the place where you are, receive the truth He gives, and obey the part that is clear. God is able to unfold purpose one faithful step at a time.
Reflect
Sit with the question
Where have you been waiting to feel completely ready before obeying? What responsibility, relationship, or opportunity is already in front of you?
Practice
Take one faithful step
Name one faithful action that can be completed today. Make it small and specific, then do it without requiring certainty about everything that may follow.
Pray
Bring it before God
Jesus, meet me in the place where I truly am. Free me from waiting to become someone else before I obey You. Give me courage to rise, humility to prepare where preparation is needed, and wisdom to recognize what is mine to do today. I trust You with what comes after this step. Amen.
Truth to carryPurpose begins when I answer Christ in the place where He meets me.
