Day 6 of 14 · Companion to Walking Together
Steward Your Part
Reads as a complete devotion on its own

“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”
1 Corinthians 4:2 · KJV
We tend to see the places where another person needs to grow more clearly than we see our own. Their weakness feels obvious. Our reaction feels justified. Yet faithfulness begins with what God has actually placed in our hands, and another person's heart is not one of those things.
You are responsible for your words, promises, choices, tone, honesty, boundaries, and willingness to repair. You are not responsible for controlling how another adult responds. This boundary between stewardship and sovereignty protects us from both passivity and control.
Owning your part does not mean taking responsibility for everything. You can apologize for speaking harshly without agreeing that the other person's behavior was acceptable. You can acknowledge impact without accepting a false accusation. Humility tells the truth about what belongs to us, no more and no less.
Faithfulness often looks ordinary. Keep the confidence someone entrusted to you. Arrive when you said you would. Communicate when plans change. Do not promise what you cannot carry. Tell the truth before someone has to discover it. Small acts of integrity create the ground on which relationship can safely stand.
Influence increases responsibility. Parents, pastors, teachers, employers, mentors, and leaders can shape another person's opportunities and sense of safety. Authority is not permission to demand loyalty or avoid correction. It is a stewardship that requires greater humility, clearer accountability, and care for those with less power.
You may faithfully do your part and still receive an outcome you did not want. The other person may remain angry, choose distance, misunderstand, or refuse repair. Faithfulness is not measured only by whether you can produce peace. It is measured by whether you placed what was yours under God's authority.
Reflect
Sit with the question
What part of a current relationship truly belongs to you? Have you been avoiding your responsibility, carrying responsibility that belongs to someone else, or trying to control the outcome after doing what is yours?
Practice
Take one faithful step
Choose one piece of stewardship for today. Keep a promise, clarify an expectation, apologize specifically, correct a careless habit, or communicate a boundary. Then release the other person's response to God.
Pray
Bring it before God
Lord, show me what You have placed in my hands. Keep me from avoiding my part or taking ownership of another person's choices. Make me honest, dependable, humble, and willing to repair. Help me be faithful even when I cannot control what happens next. Amen.
Truth to carryI am responsible for faithfulness. God remains responsible for the outcome.
